Cali Lewis – 7 Rules for Building a Vibrant Online Community

I talk a lot about the many benefits of Blogging. At WordCamp Dallas 2009, Cali gave an incredible speech about how to build a vibrant online community. She hosts GeekBrief.TV, a video show about technology. They call it “Shiny, Happy Tech News”.

In about five months, their community was successful enough for them to quit their regular jobs and follow their dream. If you want to know what makes Cali and her husband so successful, watch the video below:

Here are Cali’s 7 rules for building a vibrant online community:

  1. Know Thyself – Know They Blog!
  2. Start Compelling Conversations!
  3. Value
  4. Make Friends Not Fans
  5. Reward Participation
  6. Take Breaks
  7. Always Upgrade

I really enjoyed this presentation by Cali Lewis. I have Tweet Deck installed on my desk top, but wasn't really sure what value it added to my business until now. I have a new blog that I just launched a couple of weeks ago and the thing that was puzzling me the most was how was I going to drive quality traffic there. Cali's tip on using Tweet Deck cleared that right up for me.
